Ashland Amerson and Anita Singh, Undergraduate Research Assistants, Win Award at URFA

Ashland Amerson and Anita Singh’s oral presentation entitled “Intersectionality between male gaze and internalized views of transfeminine persons” was recognized as the winner of the Social Sciences Oral Session at Augusta University’s 2023 Undergraduate Research and Fine Arts (URFA) Conference. Singh and Amerson are upper-level undergraduate students in the Department of Psychological Sciences at AU. They both intend to pursue graduate education in psychology after graduation. Their qualitative research pertaining to transgender women’s identity development was conducted under the primary mentorship of Dr. Ryan Flinn, postdoctoral fellow, with additional mentorship during the students’ 2022-2023 internship with the AU Department of Psychiatry and Health Behavior’s LGBTQ Psychology Research Team from Ms. Kena Arnold, Dr. Matthew Kridel, Dr. Christopher Drescher, and Dr. Lara Stepleman. The Ryan White Program at AU also provided generous practical support during their internship.

Doctoral student, Chandler Tobeck, wins category at UND GRAD 2024

Chandler Tobeck’s poster presentation entitled “Suicide among American Indian/Alaska Native Populations: A Systematic Review” was recognized as the winner of the Professional Art, Humanities, and Social Sciences category at the University of North Dakota’s Graduate Research Achievement Day. Chandler is preparing a manuscript for publication resulting from this work under the primary mentorship of Dr. Ryan Flinn.
